Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.0 L diesel engine, a problem with the engine tone wheel could cause a loss of signal to crankshaft position sensor. If this happens, the engine could stall and you may not be able to restart it. Note: Vehicles included in FCA recall W58 (Transport Canada recall 2020-371) are not part of this recall. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the powertrain control module. This update will help maintain engine power if the crankshaft position signal is lost.

Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.0 L diesel engine, the high-pressure fuel pump could fail. If this happens, you may notice a change in engine performance, a fuel leak, or a malfunction indicator lamp and/or service electronic throttle control tell-tale may turn on. This could also result in a sudden loss of engine power while driving. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the high-pressure fuel pump. Additional fuel system parts may be replaced, if necessary.

Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.

On certain vehicles, an electronic fault may create a situation where the cruise control cannot be deactivated. If this occurs and the driver does not apply the brakes or shift the transmission to neutral, the vehicle could maintain speed or accelerate without warning, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software and perform an update as necessary. Note: In the interim, owners are advised not to use the cruise control until the vehicle is repaired.

On certain vehicles equipped with 3.6L engines and 160 amp output alternators, the alternator may fail suddenly. This could result in the engine stalling, causing a loss of motive power which could increase the risk of a crash as well as disable various vehicle safety systems, and could also cause a fire. Both issues could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the alternator. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2014-446.

On certain vehicles, a brake booster shield may have been incorrectly installed as part of recall P14/2014-112. An incorrectly installed shield could be less effective in diverting water away from the brake booster, creating the possibility of corrosion allowing water to get inside. In a cold climate, water inside the brake booster could freeze limiting the braking ability of the vehicle, resulting in longer braking distances, increasing the risk of crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the installation of the brake booster shield and perform repairs as necessary.

On certain vehicles equipped with electro-hydraulic power steering (“EHPS”), the alternator may fail suddenly. This could result in the engine stalling, causing a loss of motive power which could increase the risk of a crash as well as disable various vehicle safety systems, and could also cause a fire. Both issues could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the part number on the alternator, and will replace the alternator as necessary. Note: Only specific engine and alternator combinations are affected by this campaign.

On certain vehicles, the gear shift position indicators and warnings may not be sufficient to deter drivers from exiting the vehicle when the transmission is inadvertently left in a gear other than “Park”. If this occurs and the driver exits the vehicle with the engine running and the parking brake has not been set, unintended vehicle movement can result, increasing the risk of injury and/or a crash. Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software to include additional features to protect against driver error.

Certain vehicles may develop an internal fault within the Occupant Restraint Control module, which would cause the airbag warning lamp to illuminate. This would potentially disable the frontal airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, and side airbags, which could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants in a crash where airbag deployment is warranted. Correction: Dealers will replace the Occupant Restraint Control module.

On certain vehicles, a fault in the steering column control module may disable the electronic stability control (ESC), illuminating the ESC warning lamp. Loss of ESC function, during certain driving situations where ESC intervention is warranted, could increase the risk of a crash, which could result in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the steering column control module with updated software.

On certain vehicles, when cruise control is engaged and the accelerator pedal is depressed to override the cruise control, a defect in cruise control software could cause momentary continued acceleration after releasing the accelerator pedal. Depending on traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, this could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the driver assistance module.

On certain vehicles, the centre shell of the brake booster may corrode. A corroded centre shell could allow water to get inside the brake booster, which in a cold climate may freeze. This could result in inadequate braking, increasing stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace any brake booster that has an unacceptable loss of vacuum pressure, all affected vehicles will have a water diverter shield added to the brake booster.

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 101 - Controls and Displays and CMVSS 126 - Electronic Stability Control Systems. Some vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple cluster warning lights or loss of cluster illumination. This could also interfere with the ABS and electronic stability control systems, affecting directional control of the vehicle under certain driving conditions, and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the ABS and instrument cluster modules and tighten the alternator ground connection.

Certain vehicles equipped with premium headlamps fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 – Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The headlamp LED signature ring parking lamp function may inadvertently be disabled by the Central Body Controller (CBC). A lack of park lamp illumination could render the vehicle less visible to other motorists and to pedestrians, possibly resulting in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the CBC with updated software.
